1) What a headnote is
A headnote is a short note you can add above a recipe’s ingredients to share context about the dish — such as a memory, story, or tips for preparing it. (Some contributors call this an intro, story, or note about the recipe.)
Why use one?
Give personal meaning to a family recipe
Explain special ingredients or techniques
Add warmth and story to your cookbook page
2) What you’ll see
When written before the ingredients, a headnote looks like this:
3) Step-by-step: One-column of ingredients page layout
Go to your recipe page in your cookbook editor.
Make sure the page layout is the first choice under the 'Recipe Text Only' Page Layout dropdown menu. (This is the default page that appears when you add a new page to your book).
Click inside the top of the ingredients column.
Type your headnote, hit the return button twice, then type your list of ingredients.
Preview your book to confirm it looks right.
4) Step-by-step: Two-column of ingredients page layout
Select the 'Recipe Text Only' page layout option that has 2 columns for the ingredients.
Make sure the 'Show Recipe Yield' box is selected.
Type your headnote in the Recipe Yield box.
It may look cut off in edit mode, but it will appear correctly in Preview.
